Cerro Adela Central - East face

5. Aguado - Itxsaso Attempt

In late 1982 and early 1983 Spaniards Francisco “Paco” Aguado and Vicente González Itxaso attempted a line in the center of the east face, but were forced to retreat some 200 meters below the summit due to bad weather. They had hoped to climb Adela’s east face to reach the col de la Esperanza, from where they intended to continue on to the summit of Cerro Torre via the Ragni route. They started climbing at midnight and did not stop till 10 PM the following day when weather conditions took a turn to the worse forcing them to retreat.

The 1987 East face route and the 1991 Gringo en la Noche route share terrain in common with this early Spanish attempt.
